On Saturday, July 11, 2020, Patricia Ann Wells (née McCorkle), lovingly known to friends as “Patty” and to her family as “Momwells”, of Ironton, Ohio, departed this earth to her heavenly home.

Patty was born on September 23, 1934 in Blackfork, Ohio to Goldie and George McCorkle with 11 brothers and sisters. She graduated from Blackfork High School, and explored different career paths throughout her life, holding positions as a florist, nanny, and at Staley’s Pharmacy and The Patio in Ironton.

Patty was a dedicated Christian and active member of Haver Hill United Methodist Church, under Pastor Bob Morrow. She was an ardent reader throughout her life, reading books of every genre. Patty was also passionate about staying active, and you could often find her walking the paths at Central Park in Ashland. She loved the music of Elvis Presley and a good cup of black coffee; but her greatest passion in life was being a Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Patty raised 5 children, and had 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild—and due to her caring, compassionate nature—acted and was loved as a mother and grandmother to many others throughout her life.

Patty was preceded in death by her mother and father, daughters Goldie McCorkle and Belinda Powell and son Ossie Akers Jr. She is survived by daughters Debi Johnson and Robin Fletcher, grandchildren Nikki Sharp (Bill), Shawn Powell (Nicole), Claudette Saunders, Joshua Waddell, Zak Fetcher, Patrick Waddell, Brittany Stewart, Valerie Gilbert Farruggia, Keylee Fletcher, Tad Johnson and Tanner Johnson; great-grandchildren Austin Harper, Halie Porter, Emilee Powell, McKenzie Saunders, Grace Harper, Alice Gilbert, Shelby Powell, Aiden Young, Addison Waddell, Bailey Waddell, Rowen Stewart, Liam Waddell, Taylor Johnson, and Bonham Fletcher; great-great-grandchild Ryker Porter; Daughter-in-Law Donna Waddell; sister Debbie Clifford and brothers Dale, Ralph, and George McCorkle; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Patty’s Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 15th at 5:30 p.m. at Haver Hill United Methodist Church. Fellowship will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and service from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Masks will be required to be worn for those in attendance.

Flowers for her memorial service or donations to her church in her name may be sent to Haver Hill United Methodist Church, 43 Haverhill-Ohio Furnace Rd, Haverhill, OH 45636.

She once told me I was a part of the family, and meant it. That's the sort of sweet lady she was, as we all know. In 40 + years, I've always known her to be so giving to others with her kindness. Her quick smile and good humor lit up a room, as well as hearts.
I hold the family she's loved so dearly, with my love at this time, and send out many prayers for comfort.
She will be missed.
