ADAMS (Parsons), Carol Sharon “Sharon”
February 1, 1941 – August 26, 2023
Sharon died peacefully surrounded by family at the Palliative Care and Comfort Unit at the University of AL, Birmingham’s medical facilities after a long illness this summer. She was 82 years of age. Sharon was born on February 1, 1941 in Belgrove, West Virginia to Ruby Mae (Thomas) and Marion Monroe Parsons, both of West Virginia. She spent her childhood in Belgrove and Evans, West Virginia, attending Ripley High School in Ripley, WV from 1954-1956 and graduated from Mt. Vernon Academy, in Mt. Vernon, Ohio in 1958, attending from 1956-1958. She attended Washington Missionary College from 1958-1959 in Silver Springs, Maryland. While there, she met her husband of 46 years, Ronald “Ronnie” Lee Adams (1938-2005) who was an Airman at Andrews Airforce Base. After marrying on Nov. 29, 1959, they moved to his home state of Florida where all her children were born. She lived in numerous cities and states during her married years, returning to Florida in 1994.
In 1972, she enrolled in East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN to finish her nursing degree. She graduated in 1974 and spent her professional career as a Registered Nurse. She worked at a variety of medical facilities in Medical-Surgical units, as an IV nurse, an infusion therapy nurse, and in Home Health Nursing, retiring in 2005. She remained in Grand Island, Florida until 2016 when she moved to Hoover, Alabama to live with her daughter. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church from 1962 until her death.
She is survived by her daughters, Lori Jean Adams Abbott (Michael) of Hoover, AL and Teresa Lynne Adams Rice (Kevin) of Memphis, TN and Long Beach, CA; and her son, Steven Lee Adams (Kate) of Taitung, Taiwan. She was a loving grandmother to her grandson Nathaniel Adam Abbott of Storrs, CT and her granddaughters Kelsey Loreal Abbott of Montgomery, AL; Karli Erin Rice Chudeau (Nicolas) of Inverness, CA; and Taylor Lauren Rice (Aaron) of Long Beach, CA. She has one remaining sibling, her sister Kay Duncan Geach of Cohutta, GA and she leaves behind her beloved dog Sugar, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Lee Adams of Grand Island, FL; her parents, Ruby (Thomas) Parsons and Marion Parsons of Evans, WV; her brother, Lowell Don Parsons of Evans, WV; her sisters, Claudette Roselle (Parsons) Shaver of Evans, WV and Colleen Marian (Parsons) Barrow of Ooltewah, TN.
Her services will be held on September 30, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. at the Birmingham First Seventh-day Adventist Church with a private family burial at a future date, at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
