Charlie Mitter was a kind and thoughtful friend and consequently he had many friends. He was also an accomplished evolutionary biologist. We became friends when we met at Stony Brook University, in graduate school. I knew that he was special then and was pleased to watch him climbing the ranks of academia. My world has gotten a little smaller. Kim and Margaret, please send me your email addresses so that I can contact you.

To Kim and Margaret: It has been a long time since I have seen either of you. I am so sorry to hear this news. I am so glad that Charlie had the opportunity to meet Torion and to see what a beautiful grandchild was in his family now. The pictures and memories of the two of them together will be important to Torion as he grows up. Our granddaughter was only 8 months old when her other grandmother died. But now, at 7, she has such a mental impression of who she was, fostered by family stories and fewer pictures of them together, than Torion will have. I remember the old Stony Brook days when we were all young and the fun opportunity to see Charlie and Kim again at Margaret's wedding. May his memory be a blessing.

I'm saddened to hear of the passing of Caroline's dearest Dad. What a wonderful father he was. Our condolences to all his family and Cricket. RIP
