Chief (Mrs) Segilola Adunni Adereti was born on the 15th of October 1930 to the family of Late Chief Giwaegbe Adeniyi Ayoola and Madam Apeke Egbeyemi in Alasa House at Ile-Ife. She was married to Late Chief Samuel Oyeniyi Adereti and their marriage was blessed with six children.

She started trading at an early age under the tutelage of her elder sister (Late Madam Arinade Sirewola Amope Adewuyi) who trained her before she met her husband in 1950s at Alawusa House, Iremo, Ile-Ife. She was married to a polygamous family as the last wife of her husband.

She was determined to succeed against all odds. She went on to set up her own business after her marriage as a trading merchant and distributor of different kinds of mats and coconut oil (adiagbon) at Abewela in Ile-Ife. She used to travel far and near to source for materials for her business. She was also into timber business through her husband who retired as a Forester in early 1970. Even though, she was not learned, she was smart and brisk. She ran a successful business.

In her profession, she was installed as Iyalode Onigedu of Timber Association of Ile-Ife and its environs in 2013. The position she held till she passed on to eternal glory on 21st July 2023.

Chief (Mrs) Segilola Adunni Adereti was a devout Christian in her lifetime and she served with her husband (Baba Ijo) to worship at St Phillips Anglican Church, Ayetoro, Ile-Ife. She served in various capacities in the church and was privileged to belong to the women group and society before and after her husband’s demise on 23rd March 1997. As the Matriarch of Adereti Dynasty, she participated regularly in annual festival and family thanksgiving in the church till her death.

She was selfless, jovial, energetic, hardworking and always quick to laugh and talk about the positive side in all situations

She will be sorely missed by all.
