An honour and a pleasure to work with and for Chris 1978-1983
Chris was the first and best Charge Nurse I encountered at Springfield Hospital
A man of inegrity, professionalism and a warm sense of humour
As an ex-school teacher I felt a rapport with him knowing he respected education who felt frustrated his intelligence was not recognised by those in seniority
Always immaculately dressed I will remember Chris as a friend and colleague, a worthy man from Sierra Leone

My dearest Aunty Gladys, I’m still in shock. May the father of all comfort, comfort you, your children and all the family. May He heal your broken hearts and strengthen you in Jesus name. And may his soul rest in peace. To his children I say, men like our fathers cannot die. They are with us still, real in memory as they were in flesh, loving and beloved forever
God bless you Uncle Chris as you travel your spiritual journey knowing that death is not the end but the beginning. Much love until we meet again. Ann-Marie Samura

Mr and Mrs Cole are a gem on planet Earth, a gem that is very rare to find. I happens to meet this great couples , when the late brother of Mrs Cole introduces me as his employee, ever since then they treated me as their own son, and in return i helped them to do some house chores , which I never regretted. Many people have known this couple for the love of education, even as an illiterate they treated me equally as others. In order not for me to jobless, they talk me through to learn an Hand job which I did.And today I’m so grateful as I am a successful local civil engineer.
May his great soul Rest In Peace.
We love u❤️

It saddens my heart, when I heard about the death of Christian Kahinde Cole.He was a great husband, father, uncle and friend. To me he was a father, a father who keep in touch with his children disregarding the distance. I met Mr and Mrs Cole, through a friend who happens to be their adopted daughter.Ever since then they treated me as their very own. Over the years, when this two amazing couples ship food items, clothing and other necessarily items, my name was included as a beneficiary. As if that was not enough they will still send a token to add it up to whatever they may have shipped. They were not just a parent to their own Biological children, they were parent to a lot of people. What I admire most about Pa Cole is the love he had for education. He had sponsor many children in Sierra Leone financially to further their education.Pa Cole you will be miss, May your gentle soul continue to Rest In Peace.

I am Janet, a very closed friend to the Cole family. I came to know Mr and Mrs Cole through a closed friend of mine (Cecilia-Freetown) for quite some time now. I will say, a big THANKs to Cecelia as a 'God-Sent' for me to meet such an adorable and God fearing family.

I for one will always remain to miss "Daddy Cole" because of his POSSITIVE and HUMBLE character of his, who was very LOVING and CARING. Was full of strong and enthusiastic spirit. May Our Good Lord receive him with all good angels

Daddy, as i first mentioned, was really a God-sent to me and my children, as he has wiped tears from my eyes on so many occasions with both financial help and encouraging words... (tears as am typing) may his soul rest in peace!

I have missed those days, when i will pop in to do mummy's hair, and will also asked to dye daddy's one; but most times daddy will say "Gladys, why bordering yourself, no need to dye mine, cause am already on my DEPARTURE seat....just waiting for ARRIVAL" and both mummy and i will burst into a big laughter!! and both of them will go on and on with provoking and laughter, which was so sweet of them. I just pray that, mummy will remain strong to stand all those SWEET MEMORIES of a dear HUSBAND to her, and also my prayer is, may God in His immense mercy grant this family peace, love and steadfast to meet to God's will till eternity. May the love that we all have for Daddy Cole, let him rest in perfect peace. Aaaaamen

Mr Cole was a very respected member of the congregation of St Michael's, Croydon. I always think of him arriving at Church very smart and dignified and we will miss him very much. His memory will be a blessing to those who knew him.

Our hearts go out to Mrs Cole and all their lovely family and we remember everyone in our prayers. It was strange that there were so few of us at the funeral, though wonderful that so many family and friends were able to watch the service. When things get better we will meet again and we look forward very much to welcoming everyone to St Michael's to pay our respects and to honour Mr Cole.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory and may our faith in the risen Lord Jesus give comfort and strength to those of us who mourn his sad passing.

God bless you all. Fr Tim

The strife is o’er the battle won....joining the many voices in paying tribute to a fine gentleman, a legislator of integrity and a blessing to humanity.
Death is the harvest time; we reap the fruits we have sown in our life time.
It’s harvest time; hence Uncle Chris has gone to reap the good fruits he sowed during his life on earth.
We did not expect it and wish we had more time to continue to appreciate you. God in His infinite wisdom knows best.
May the good Lord comfort and sustain your dearly beloved wife- Aty Ebun, children and family now and always.
Sleep, sleep & take your rest - God be with you till we meet again.

Oh I wish April 3rd was not on the 2020 calendar, oh I wish I have the power to reverse time just to make you stay with us for more time.Christian Kahinde Cole, who I usually called bobor belleh was an angel in human form, I met Mr&Mrs Cole as nobody, they took me as their own daughter, they provided for me both materially and financially, as if that was not enough, they took responsibility of my son’s education. Traveling was merely a dream to me, until when this lovely couples invited me to stay with them in England for sometime.Words can’t express how grateful I am and how sadly I will miss you.Even in your sick bed you assured me that my son school fees will be settled.Your love for education is so exceptional, you sacrifice your money and time to help hardworking people around the world. The fun we had any time you travel to Sierra Leone more especially those Saturday I prepared your foo-foo and bittas and you used to provoke me with the name Cecilia Saidu and I in turn call u borbor belleh will never be forgotten
Despite the distance you still exercise your fatherly love by calling us every week to check upon us
We love you but God love you most, we shall surely meet again, continue to Rest In Peace.Borbor belleh

I have just sat through the service, whilst in the the phone with my Dad. I did cry. My memories of Uncle Chris is always one of joy and happiness. Uncle Chris picked me up from the airport when I immigrated to England. My first night was spent on the loving embrace of his family. Invariably we will see uncle Chris and auntie Ebu whilst we are holiday or at family reunions. My lasting memory of him is of a kind and gently family man who was a dedicated consort to my dearest Auntie Ebu. My sincere sympathies to You auntie and my cousins Bernard, Annette, Christie and Nina. May He rest in peace.

Chris was a kind, helpful, giving, and fun loving person. He was always well dressed as confirmed by the pastor. He liked dancing and so is Ebun. He loves his wife and children to death. He once told me "my children are my family". He was a good father and dedicated husband. They worked together as a team and that made them successful. In January 2020 he gave a perfect eulogy honoring my brother Alex Cowan at his funeral. I congratulated him and his exact words were "I have been with your family for too long and I know a lot ". Now you have gone to meet your maker and I know you are in heaven. Ebun please mourn with hope for Jesus will wipe all your tears away and the Holy Spirit will comfort and direct you. It is very difficult at this time but God is in control. I cried with you at the cemetry because I know what you are going through. Hush ya. May his Soul rest in peace.

His Life

Kissy Boy Forever

April 10, 2020
Kissy was a small village. The people were not wealthy, but they were rich in family and community. Everybody knew everybody. Christian was born a twin on 21st March 1938 and had a sister named Taiwo (RIP). He also had a younger brother named Alieu.

His mother Ahbeyo separated from his father Johannes when he was a boy. The split was not amicable so he did not get to see his father too often after the separation. His father died a few years later. Growing up without a father left a void in his life that was difficult to fill. This is probably why it was it was so important to him to be a present provider for his children when he grew up.

He was a strong believer in hard work being the passport to success, so despite the many obstacles of poverty and a single-parent home he worked hard and achieved good grades at CMS Grammar School in Freetown, Sierra Leone. He often shared stories of how despite the fact that he only had one set of school uniform which he would wash, dry and press daily, he was still always smart and well turned out.

As a boy he often spent time with and visited his best friend Modupeh Cowan (RIP) who lived across the road and that's where he met his childhood sweetheart Gladys, Modupeh's sister, who he would fall in love with and later marry.

Life after Grammar School

April 11, 2020
On graduating from Grammar School, he embarked on a short career in printing. However, he longed for a better life, so when the opportunity arose for a new life in the UK, he took it and subsequently sent for his childhood sweetheart Gladys to join him once he was settled.

Welcome to the UK

April 10, 2020
In 1962 Sierra Leone was still a British Colony which meant it's citizens had a right to reside in the UK. Christian (or Kehinde) as he was known to freinds and family took the opportunity and arrived in the UK in 1962.

Initially life in the UK was not all he had dreamed. Due to extreme racism at the time, he was unwelcome in many places. Securing accommodation was particularly difficult as it was for many black people coming from West Africa and the Caribbean in the 1960's. He often told stories of being promised accommodation by telephone only to be refused it on arrival when the landlord realised he was black! In fact on one occasion the landlady fainted when she opened the door because she'd never seen a black man before!

Shortly after his arrival in the UK, Gladys arrived  and they were married in St James’ Church, Croydon on 21st March 1964, which also happened to be Christian's birthday.
