THE COMING OF SPRING
Eleanor (Wills) Odegard 1940
In the east the sun is rising
To greet the coming day;
It makes the whole world happy
As it shines across the way.
Through the still air of the morning
Floats the song of whippoorwills!
Announcing that spring is coming!
Because the snow has left the hills.
The streams are running noisily
Through forests, swamps and land;
They flow to distant rivers
Carrying with them leaves and sand.
All day long the world is busy
With the tasks it must perform;
‘Till the sun sets in the evening
To await another morn.
