Tribute to My Sister in-law, Ezinne Monica
My last discussion with you on 28th April, three days before your demise, was indeed prophetic. We encouraged each other to de-emphasize material things, seek God, and peace with all men as far as it depends on us. The peace and serenity you exhibited in that discussion, your spirituality, and maturity will always be remembered because it is very comforting to me as a person. It was as if you were seeing beyond the physical, perceiving life with eternity in view. You encouraged me to stay close to home and appreciated how frequently I visited. Probably your spirit already perceived what would soon happen and you gently dropped that instruction like an elder about to embark on a long-distance journey. I wish I knew that would be the last time I would hear your voice. I would have pleaded with you not to leave us yet. It was disturbing to hear of your demise within seventy-two hours of that interaction, even though you never complained of any sickness or pain. In a way, it was good that you did not suffer. But for those of us you left behind, it is shocking beyond words. You did not give us the opportunity to sit by your bedside to offer some form of emotional and spiritual support or even to say goodbye. Your passing was simply shocking; and you left a huge vacuum very difficult to fill.
My comfort is that you died in faith. As I listened to your words through those who heard you during your last minutes of life, I have no doubt that you held tenaciously and unwaveringly to your confession of Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and shamelessly confessed your faith in Him. Your faith expressed through those confessions proves that you slept in the loving arms of your Maker and transited into uninterrupted eternal fellowship with Him. Sleep on, nnukwu ada! It is well with your soul.
My lesson from your passing is that life is vapor. Though I have always heard this, your experience brings it home and makes me to be more prepared now to face death than ever before. But we will not all leave at the same time. We will try to carry on the challenging responsibility you left for us. Your treasured possession and daughter, Chioma Nneoma, will not lack a family and much needed support as long as we are alive.
Ocheze, gaa ije gi nke oma!
Sleep on, galant soldier of the Lord, till we meet to part no more.
‘Ogo Onyeka-Okafo (Stainless), sister in-law

I recall my first impression of you when we first met. A strong woman with an amazing Spirit. You are gone today, but I know you have left a legacy. An enviable legacy. I can only ask God to give your loved ones the fortitude to bear your loss because you will be missed. Rest on Mama.
