Her Life

Glenna Jean (Reid) Atwood

May 18, 2022
Glenna Jean (Reid) Atwood, age 90, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, April 29th in the loving company of her children and grandchildren.  Glenna had an enormous and deeply compassionate heart and she dedicated her entire life to the love and support of her family, her church, her community and to helping out anyone who was less fortunate than herself. She was a cheerleader by nature and attended hundreds of youth athletic contests over the years and was always the loudest and most enthusiastic voice on the sidelines.  You never had to wonder if she loved you because she told you so at the end of every conversation. Lake Chelan was her heaven on Earth and family gatherings there were always the highlight of her summer. She was happily married to the love of her life, Wayne Atwood, for 59 wonderful years and their legacy of love and commitment to family and service will continue to inspire us forever.  She is survived by her eight children, fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and her beloved dog Tia.

Her service will take place at St. Francis Catholic Church in Burien on June 3rd at 11:00a.m.  In lieu of flowers, gifts or donations we highly recommend that you engage in one of the following activities to honor Glenna’s legacy:

**Look for an opportunity to be of service to the less fortunate members of your community.  One of Glenna’s most long-term volunteer positions involved making sandwiches and cookies every month for the local homeless shelter.  She also visited regularly with elderly clients to keep them company, take them care packages and transport them to their various appointments or to the store.

**Make sure that your voice is heard and your vote counted when elections are being held.  Glenna was never content to just disagree or complain about a policy or law that she thought was unfair; she was a woman of action and wrote letters and participated in political marches regularly to support the causes and candidates that she believed in.

**Increase the amount of material that you personally recycle each month.  Glenna was a strong advocate of recycling long before the curbside programs came around and she would sometimes drive for hundreds of miles with recyclable materials in her car to find a recycling center rather than just throw the items in the trash.
