From your diabetes nurse

August 19
Jack, I only met you in person once or twice, but I spoke to your Mum, Kate, a number of times about you. My job was about helping you learn about your diabetes and train you on your insulin pump, which you did with gusto! You didn’t need me to help you. You were all over it. I was also about helping support your parents in sending you to Kings and letting them, and you know how great that decision was. Also about sending you off to England,  knowing that you were responsible and mature enough to look after yourself.
The news today broke me. I am so devastated that a beautiful young man in his prime was taken. Jack, I remember you as warm, mature, friendly and oh so funny. As I mentioned, I may have only met you in person once, but I bonded with you and found you to be a resilient and very cool and open human being. You are a true testament to your amazing parents and wider family, who I know will miss you tremendously. Rest in peace you beautiful boy. You will be so awfully missed by all, but I will choose to remember you as one of my favourite (apparently that’s not allowed!) funniest and coolest of my many many patients. I will never forget you Jack. Thank you for making me love my job. Lucy Casson. (Diabetes Nurse Practitioner - Total Diabetes Care) xxx
