Early Life

May 19, 2020
Jackline Chepkemoi, fondly known to her family as Memo and her friends as Jackie, was born on 20th August 1987 in Laitigo Village, Soin Location, Kericho County as the only child to the late Musa Langát and the late Loise Chepkorir Langát. Memo lived in her home in Laitigo, Soin during her early childhood years. Unfortunately, in August 1996, at the tender age of 9 years old, Memo lost her mum to illness and two years later, tragedy struck again when she also lost her father. As a result of these profound losses, Memo went to live with her uncle's family, Mr and Mrs Pius Mutai, in Nairobi.

Memo began her primary school education at Westlands Primary School in 1996, which she attended until 1998, when she transferred to Ketigoi Preparatory School. She completed her KCPE examination in 2005. Subsequently she joined Karura Adventist Secondary School in 2006, where outside of her education, Memo’s Adventist faith was further entrenched, as she participated in church activities held in the school. Upon completion of her secondary school education in 2009, Memo joined University of Eastern Africa, Baraton, at their Eldoret town campus, where she undertook a training in Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) Management. She later joined Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) where she pursued Diploma Courses in Purchasing and Supplies, and Human Resource Management.

Work Life

Jackline’s first formal employment was at Oriflame Ltd, where she worked in sales and multi-level marketing, all the while modelling as well, which brought to the fore her love for fashion.
She then moved to Multi-tools Ltd in Industrial Area, Nairobi, where she worked as a secretary until 2015.
Thereafter, Jackline joined Esetoric Systems Ltd where she worked as an office administrator until her demise. She was a diligent and dependable worker, a hardworking girl who embodied commitment to her job.
Jackline was a self-starter and she pursued side hustles alongside her formal employment. Her most recent forays into farming were evidence of this, where she had ventured into watermelon farming, and had outline plans on her next venture into coffee farming, with the support of her uncles.

Personal Life

Memo was a reserved, pleasant and kind girl who was soft spoken, respectful, honest and dependable. She had a unique ability to have a positive outlook on life, and was always conscious to focus on the blessings that she had in her life. A perfect example of these virtues that she embodied was on display when her Batiem was unwell, and accommodated in Nairobi, needing detailed care, and Memo diligently and unreservedly was home to provide care and companionship to her. In addition to these wonderful attributes, she stood tall, slim and pretty and was always elegantly dressed, due to her keen fashion sense.

Church

May 19, 2020
Memo was born into a Seventh Day Adventist home. Her mum consistently took her to church in her early years. She ardently learnt to be God fearing. She was later baptized in 2004 at Nairobi Central Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she has been a regular church member and participated in church activities. She remained a committed Adventist up to her untimely demise.

Illness

May 19, 2020
Memo enjoyed robust health for the vast majority of her life. She had a very short duration of illness that led to her sudden and unexpected demise. On Wednesday 13th May 2020, she called her aunt at about 5:30pm complaining of severe breathing difficulties. She was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital but succumbed hardly an hour later despite intense resuscitation efforts by the medical team. The postmortem results revealed that Memo had suffered from a blood clotting complication, which caused the formation of a huge blood clot in her body, with subsequent blocking of the lungs (massive pulmonary thromboembolism).
