It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Johnnie Leroy Edmonds, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, who left us peacefully on May 31, 2024. Born on December 13, 1943, Johnnie’s early years were marked by his athletic spirit, playing football and running track at Banks High School, where he set the foundation for a lifetime of perseverance and teamwork.
Johnny’s professional life as a successful mechanical engineer was as illustrious as his youth. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to found Edmonds Engineering, Inc. which is a testament to his innovative mind and leadership qualities. With his hard work ethic and guidance, the company flourished, and continued in his name after retirement. He was a leader in the industry and respected by his colleagues and clients. His impact was life changing to many of his employees and their families. Because of his kindness and empathy, he was beloved by all.
Beyond his professional achievements, Johnnie was a guiding light as a father and grandfather. His warm and cheerful personality was a beacon of joy for all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and his presence brought comfort and laughter to every room.
In his leisure time, Johnnie was an artist at heart, expressing his creativity through painting and stained-glass work. These hobbies were a reflection of his intricate and colorful view of the world, and they brought him immense pleasure and a sense of peace.
Johnnie was predeceased by his beloved wife Joyce D. Edmonds, and he is survived by his two sons, J. Lee Edmonds and his wife Susie, and Terry A. Edmonds. His legacy also lives on through his four grandchildren, Fortner, James, Whit, and Jensen Edmonds, who will miss him dearly.
Johnnie was also a beloved brother to David Duke and his wife Linda, as well as Wayne Duke and his wife Susan. Their families will hold dear the legacy of love and kinship that Johnnie fostered throughout his life.

A visitation and reception with the family will be held on Thursday June 6th 3 pm to 5 pm at Southern Heritage Funeral Home & Cemetery - 475 Cahaba Valley Rd, Hoover, AL 35124. All are welcome to attend and share in the remembrance of a truly remarkable soul. A private service will be held at a later date.
