Larry and Glenda Got Married on July 13, 1968 they had a wonderful 1st year Anniversary, spending it in the Hospital in El Centro having their son Alan William Smith, named after his Father and Sam. Glenda would not allow Alan to be named Sam so Middle Names of both were used. They moved to Glen Avon shortly after and lived there for approx. a year. Shortly after Glenda’s father passed away they moved into the house they still live in on William Ave in Mira Loma. On January 18, 1974 Alisha D. Smith was born.

Larry had a very strong work Ethic he worked for Synthane Taylor for more than 20 years. He held many positions including Production Line worker and Shipping Receiving Clerk. He was an active Union member holding several positions. After his retirement he went to work as a security guard for American Protective Services, He served as a field Supervisor, his primary post that was Bank of America but worked many different post. He was basically head hunted by E.L. Yeager which later became Skanska. He was the lead Supervisor for the small security force that patrolled the large construction companies storage yard.

Larry also had a strong since of community.  He and Glenda were a big part of forming a Gymkhana riding group for common people; the name of the group was Poverty Posse. They spent many weekends setting up barrels and poles for the children and adults that loved to ride their horses and keep the kids safe for a very cheap price. When his son Alan was in the fifth grade he wanted to join Cub Scouts and went to a Cub Scout meeting, they were told that Alan was too old to  join the Cub Scouts and needed to come back on the following Thursday. He and Alan Joined Boy Scouts of America. Larry was an Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 33 Norco for a good five years. He became Scoutmaster when John Lantry stepped down and passed the torch. Larry took over. He made Scouting, a great experience for many young men, while leading / teaching the scouts without the scouts knowing they were doing so.

Larry’s Hobbies included Camping and Fishing.  He loved the annual Salmon or Steelhead Fishing trips. They were the highlight of his year. He, Sam, John and Dave, their guide would traipse into the wild. Sometimes, they would even allow someone else to tag along like, his son Alan or co-workers but for the most part it the three or four of them. And we all know, what happens on those fishing trips stays on the River!

This is the Last thing to be said about Larry, he wanted to make one last trip to Las Vegas, Glenda, Alan and Alisha asked him if he was sure, his answer was emphatically “Yes I am going if I have to drive myself”. Glenda, Alan and Alisha had to say well I guess we are going. They packed the car and Larry, turned out Alan ended up driving the rental car with Larry and Glenda rode in the car following with Christine. Alan and Larry had the greatest time talking, reminiscing and singing. This Was Larry’s Last Big Harrah He Made it to Las Vegas With his son and his son would not change a thing.
