Her Life

In Loving Memory of Mary Markovich

April 26, 2017

Mary Markovich, 97, longtime resident of Essex, Maryland died on April 11, 2017 at ManorCare Health Services in Towson, Maryland. Her family extends deep gratitude and appreciation to those who took care of her these last five years.

Mary was born to John and Anna(Slahta) Majer of Portage, PA on January 17, 1920. She graduated from Portage Township High School in 1938 at the top of her class. Mary married the love of her life, Edward Markovich in 1941 and was with him until his death in 1975.

She is survived by their three children Eileen DeAngelis, Robert (and Cathy) Markovich, both of Baltimore, and Sylvia Edwards of Colorado.  Mary dearly loved her grandchildren Tammy (and Kevin) DeAngelis Herr, Tony (and Kimberly) DeAngelis;  Jonathan, Brigham, Jesse and Josh Markovich, and Nicholas Icenrod. She loved spending  whatever  time she could with her great grandchildren Brooke and Brianna Peters, Sofia DeAngelis and Livia Nethercott, as well as her many nieces and nephews.  Of her 6 siblings, she is survived by her brother Andrew Majer of Portage. Her other siblings, John and George Majer, Ann Smindak, Helen Maul and Sue Figerod preceded Mary in death.

Mary was a generous and kind hearted individual who loved the outdoors, baking, and gardening. Her colorful flower and rose gardens delighted the people who passed by her home.  She was an avid reader and took up trout fishing, a passion shared by her husband. She loved to make special treats and share these with her neighbors and friends.  Beyond everything, she loved and was devoted to her family. Although quiet and often reserved, she touched the lives of those who knew her. Mary loved to play bingo, the lottery, and enjoyed her visits to the casinos. She had her "system" that worked for her, often won and shared her winnings with those she loved.  She will be deeply missed.

An open celebration of life will take place at Gardens of Faith cemetery in Rosedale, Maryland on Tuesday, May 9, at 1:00 pm.  Condolences and memories of Mary may be left at http://mary-markovich.forevermissed.com/
