A son of the late Samuel, Sr. and Vina Boatwright Clark, Sgt. Clark was born in Ashburn, GA and was a graduate of Turner County High School. He attended Albany State University and had obtained a Bachelors degree. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of 21 years, and was owner/operator of Clark Digital Appliances. He was a member of Pinehurst Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the VFW. He was preceded in death by siblings Gordan, David and Lizzie Clark.

Survivors include: his wife of 43 years, Brenda Gammage Clark; five sons, Scottie Gammage, Alex McKinney (Tangie), Melvin Clark, Jr. (Tiffany), Christopher Clark(Mia), Jefferson Clark(Kandace) and David Clark(Leslee); two daughters, Lori Armour (Percy) and Marquitta Walker; 22 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, three brothers, Samuel L. Clark, Jr., Jimmy Clark(Juanita) and Raymond Clark; four sisters, Dorothy Brown, Christine Tukes(Eddie), Mary Grace Clark and Ethel Rivers; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Gammage; loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
