Michael David Bagby, 57 years old, died peacefully surrounded by his family, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA on Thursday, November 7, 2019 after a heroic battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.  Mike was born January 7, 1962 in Denver, CO, to Maxine Poulton and the late Joel Bagby.  Mike graduated from Wroxeter High School in Arnold, MD in 1980 and graduated with a BA in Psychology from Lynchburg College in 1984.  Mike worked most of his adult life for Northrup Grumman until he retired in 2018, and most recently for the Commonwealth of Virginia, Information Technologies Agency.

Our father was devoted to his family. Many considered him an underrated comedian, making all those around him giggle. He was a movie and music encyclopedia and had many hobbies including boating and crabbing. Michael showed selflessness and courage, as he provided the ultimate gift of organ donation, saving the lives of two others.

Mike is survived by his college sweetheart and beloved wife of 30 years, Susan Reinsberg Bagby; his children Kelly Bagby, Robert Bagby, and Lindsay Bagby – all of Midlothian, VA; his mother Maxine Poulton; his sisters, Robyn Bagby, Kelly Bagby, Beth Bell, and Claire Carton; his mother and father in law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reinsberg; his brother-in-law, William Reinsberg; and his sister-in-law, Catherine Reinsberg Burton; his nieces and nephews, Katie Fuller, Robert Reinsberg, Annie Burton, James Burton, Scott, Burton, Kin Moroney, and Aysia Moroney.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the UVA Pulmonary Unit for their excellent medical care of Mike during his final days and for their compassionate bedside manner with his family.

A memorial service will be held at Salisbury Presbyterian Church, Wednesday, November 13 at 11AM.  A reception for family and friends follows at the home of Alicia & Richard Miller, 13900 Whitechapel Road, Midlothian.

In lieu of flowers, we suggest memorial contributions be made in his name “Michael Bagby” to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.  Here is a direct link to his tribute page.   https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/PFFTribute/MichaelBagby or you can mail a contribution to 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 500, Chicago, IL 60611.

You may be gone from this earth, but you are often thought of and hoping that your family finds it easier each year. Loved the way you lit up when talking about your kids and your fun nature. Rest easy

Sue and Family, I am so sorry for your loss and all you and Mike must have gone through over the past couple years. I was looking for a picture of Mike and the only one I could find was him running away from my cubicle at Northrop Grumman after he pulled a practical joke on me. This was Mike to the core. A kind, funny, caring man. I am sure you are all proud of him in the way he lived his life and I imagine he was a brave hero to the end. He and I talked of faith matters often. The only thing I can figure out is Jesus must have needed a good finance guy and couldn’t wait any longer. Mike shared many funny stories including his escapades as a kid on South River—sorry he did not get to write his book, “Things Our Mothers Never Knew.” I pray that God’s grace and love will fill those large holes you have in your hearts and lives. I know He will until you see Mike again. God bless you.

Sending our deepest condolences to your family!! May each of you find peace during this difficult time & surrounded with much love & comfort. My memories working for Mike will be cherished in my heart, as it was the best years of my career @ TRW/NGC. His smile, laughter, and storytelling was unforgettable. Our son, Tyler, now 22, remembers as a child the day Mike set out a putt-putt course in the office & played a few rounds. He was such a "Joy" to be around! He loved sharing his stories about his children & forever love Sue!! Keeping you in our prayers, The Lewellen family

I only went to Wroxeter '75-'77, but I remember Mike. If you had asked him, he wouldn't have known me or remembered me. We weren't "friends", but I was friends with his "little" sister, Robyn, who I ultimately graduated with from Spalding. I remember how good-hearted and friendly Mike was to me, even though he didn't know me. Maybe it was because he saw that I was a friend of Robyn's, but from what I've seen and heard, he was like that to everyone ;-). May you find peace that he is no longer suffering from his illness. May you find peace in the many memories of all of the people he touched. My thoughts and prayers are with his entire family at this time.... my heart aches for you at this time.

Mike:
I always pictured you catching fish in the Bay after your retirement as you always would kid around. Thank you for being a great and fun boss.

God took you in his loving arms, He saw you needed rest, His paradise and garden must be stunning. For God only knows best.

So sorry I never got to say Thank you, Merci, Gracias, Danke for being a great soul.

Goodnight Mike.

Michael was the son any mother would have been joyous to have. Full of love for all, friend for all. He carried a special goodness about him even when he slipped in some of life's situations. My son always wanted peace and love for people ….the world right down to his family. No better man has walked the earth in my eyes.
I chose the feather for this tribute because it is the symbol for God's Angels who are with us for strength and comfort through life.

Too Many Stories to Remember

November 9, 2019
Mike was a jokester and story teller. Many of his stories were about himself or his family. He would poke fun at himself and I used to think Sue had to be a Saint. There was the time he was watching the kids and lost one, or the time his car rolled out of the drive, the time he changed his jacket and forgot to bring his wallet to work, then called Sue to drive to Richmond instead of asking one is us to borrow the money for gas.

We always knew where Mike had been in the office because he always left his coffee behind. I don’t know if he drank much coffee at all. He could get along with anyone and always had a ready smile and laugh. I could follow the laughter when I needed him, if not the trail of cold coffee cups. He brightened a lot of lives and will be missed
