This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Gerald Obiora Chidom.
Gerald Obiora Chidom's journey began on January 25th, 1965, in Lagos, Nigeria. He was raised in Akama Oghe, Eziagu, in Enugu State, where he was nurtured by his loving parents, Steven and Cecilia Chidom. The youngest of six, Obiora enjoyed the company of his siblings: Stella Oduenyi (née Chidom), Ifeyinwa Ugwu (née Chidom), Lauretta Nnachetam (née Chidom), Eric Chidom, and Maureen Onyeonwu (née Chidom). He studied at National Grammer School Nike, Enugu.
In 1985, Obiora embarked on a journey that brought him to Redwood City, California. As a young and determined man, he established a thriving painting contractor business. Eventually, Obiora would meet the core of his heart, Gabriella, with whom he fostered love and partnership through marriage. The two married in Las Vegas, Nevada, and later held a wedding ceremony in Nigeria. Obiora and Gabriella started a family, raising three remarkable children – Oderah, Arinze, and Amarachi. Obiora's role as a devoted husband and father was woven into the fabric of their lives, as he provided unwavering support to his children's dreams – from their achievements on the basketball court to their aspirations in the medical field.
Beyond his familial roles, Obiora was a beacon of positivity and kindness. In the Bay Area community, his name was synonymous with friendship, warmth, generosity, and acceptance, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His radiant spirit illuminated the lives of those around him, inspiring others to embrace the power of love and joy.
For Obiora, life was an adventure to be seized. Together with his beloved wife, he explored the world. Obiora lived life to the fullest, and the richness of his experiences served as a testament to his zest for life.
On August 7th, 2023, at the age of 58, Obiora's journey found its serene end in Oakland, California. He faced advanced pancreatic cancer with courage, and his spirit gracefully transitioned to eternal serenity. Though his physical presence has passed from our midst, his legacy lives on through the lives he touched.
Gerald Obiora Chidom leaves behind a legacy of love, courage, and unwavering positivity. He is survived by his loving wife, cherished children, siblings, and many loving uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and friends, a testament to a life lived with purpose, joy, kindness, and dedication. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Ifeyinwa.
As we bid farewell, let us find solace in the memories we shared and the love that continues to resonate in our hearts. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his legacy inspire us to embrace each moment with the same boundless love that he shared with the world.
