Pat Wilson, a beloved longtime resident of Danville, California, passed away on July 4, 2024, at the age of 83. Born in Ponca City, Oklahoma and raised in Seattle, Washington, Pat attended the University of Washington and later earned his teaching credential at Cal State Hayward.

Pat dedicated 34 years of his life to teaching in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, where he was cherished by students and parents alike. His passion for education and sports left a lasting impact on many young lives. Pat served as a P.E. teacher and after-school coach, sharing his love for sports with his students.

A true sports enthusiast, Pat was an ardent fan of the SF Giants, and he closely followed the 49ers and Warriors. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed games of all kinds, especially his regular poker nights and the daily newspaper puzzles. He was a regular at Club Sport of San Ramon where he will be missed by the guys for his daily quizzes.

Pat was deeply involved in his community. He was particularly devoted to the Discovery Counseling Center of Danville, where he served on the board of directors and as past president. He was also active in the San Ramon Valley branch of SIR, and took great pride in his Osage tribal heritage.

Pat is survived by his daughter, Pam Wilson; his sister, Ann Nikula; his nephews, Anthony Nikula (and his wife Caitlyn and their son Nash) and Michael Nikula. He will also be fondly remembered by the Koby family, who cherished him as a friend, father, and grandfather.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Greenbrook Racquet and Swim Club in Danville, CA, on Saturday, August 17, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.

It is with a heavy heart that I offer my deepest condolences to Pat's family and his many friends. It was my great honor to work with Pat for 13 years. He was a much-respected member of Discovery Counseling Center's Board of Directors when they hired me as Executive Director in 2011.

In my first year on the job, Pat stepped up to chair the Board at a very challenging time for the Center. He led the Board with care and compassion and was a tremendous support to me as we worked together developing new programs and enhancing others. Pat was unfailing in his commitment to ensuring that Discovery Counseling Center provided much-needed mental health services to the community that he loved so much.

Not only was Pat a thoughtful leader, he was tons of fun too! He led Discovery's golf tournament committee for many years. We delighted in the fundraising ideas and the many friends that he brought to Discovery's table. Time with Pat was always time well-spent. You left his presence feeling good about the world.

I recently read a quote that resonated with me as it seems to beautifully describe Pat. "There are those who bring a light so great into the world that even after they are gone, the light remains." I know that Pat's light will continue to shine brightly in my heart. It will also be reflected daily in the lives of so many of us who had the privilege of working and volunteering with Pat, truly a prince among men.
