His Life
April 19, 2022
Born & raised in Portland, Oregon to Oscar & Rose Howlett…Roger was the first born of four other siblings (Joan, Bruce, Lori & Scott). He spent most of his youth riding bikes, exploring railroads, skiing with his brother Scott, and spending summers up Bainbridge, Washington with his belated Uncle Carl (brother of Rose). He went to Woodstock Elementary, then Cleveland High School. Later he continued his education, landing him at Bonneville Power Administration as an Electronic Engineer Technician - which he made a career out of.

He was a loving husband to Gisela Howlett, and was married for over 50 years. Together they had two daughters Sandra & Gwen. He was an amazing husband, father, brother, son & human being.

Amazing Father: by, Mon Ha

June 30, 2022
Your dad was an amazing father, husband, son, and overall, the best human being. He was such a kind, generous, and patient man. I hope you can find solace in reflecting on the many happy memories that you shared.

I was just thinking of all the memories that I have shared with your family over the years. How when my parents were too busy with their restaurant, the kindness that your parents showed me and treated me as another daughter.

There are times that we may not remember all the details, but we will never forget how someone made us feel. Your dad always made me feel loved and cared about. Your parents enriched my life so much with their presence and it brings me to tears to think about how the best people always leave us too early.

We never celebrated any Western holidays at my house because the restaurant was always open and my parents were working. I got to experience spending time together during the holidays with your family.

I worked with Roger's wife Gisela at BPA for many years, and remained friends with both her and her husband. One thing that I can say about Roger, was his sincere dedication to his family.  He was a good man, a good friend and good listener who gave great advice.  I enjoyed my visits with Roger and Gisela at their home several times over the years and loved hearing stories about their life together, how they met, all their adventures in Europe and starting their family back in Portland Oregon. I also remember the   extravagant train set Roger put up during the holidays. It was truly amazing how he was able to place the tracks around the entire front room and even in other areas of his home.  It was beautiful and very enjoyable to watch. I will miss Roger and always think of him fondly.

A Great Man

I had the pleasure and honor of working with Roger for many years at the Bonneville Power Administration.  In working with Roger, as our other colleagues would certainly agree, Roger was the ultimate professional.  His work was always timely and exemplary, but more importantly, he was a wonderful teammate.  Working with Roger always made things better.  Because of his technical skills, Roger was promoted to the highest level possible for an Electronic Engineering Technician at BPA.  Roger's work was very innovative which brought new technical skills to the Bonneville engineering community.  While his work, teamwork and technical skills were always perfection, what I enjoyed most about working with Roger were our chats.  He often spoke of his family which brought a special smile to his face.  In talking to him, I also got quite an education on the art of sound and video systems.  My condolences to Gisela and his daughters, and I thank you for sharing a truly wonderful man with us.
