Sharon Flowers Denton was called home by her Heavenly Father on July 13, 2024.

Sharon was born on August 8, 1949, in West Point, MS, delivered by her uncle, Harvey Flowers at The Flowers Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Burnell Flowers, MD and Beaulah Kent Flowers. Also by her sister, Rosalyn Flowers Hutchinson.

Sharon held her family dear to her heart and, in her own words, “loved them big.” She is survived by her husband Charles Leslie “Chip” Denton; daughter Leslie Denton Brooks (Michael); son Charles William “Dent” Denton (Jett) and daughter Kitty Flowers Denton. Her grandchildren affectionately called her “Shug”; Wyatt, Carter, Miller, and Denton Brooks; Jack, Georgia and William Denton. Sharon is also survived by her brother, Ray Flowers, Jr. and many nieces and nephews.

Sharon graduated from West Point High School, class of 1967. She then attended Mississippi State College for Women where she received a bachelor's degree in education with a minor in music. Sharon was involved in many extracurricular activities including basketball, Silhouette Social Club, and singing 1st soprano in her acapella group. She met Chip on a blind date while in college, and they were married for 52 years. They enjoyed married life in Montgomery and Birmingham, AL and Grenda, MS, but spent most of their treasured years raising their family in the community of Mountain Brook, AL. Sharon was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Community Bible Study, and the Junior League of Birmingham, specifically the choral group. Sharon’s passion was working with children. She taught at Pilgrim Day School and went on to help start a preschool program in Grenada, MS.

Since retirement, Chip and Sharon loved traveling the world together and with dear friends. Most of all, they enjoyed time with their family at Lake Martin. Shug was her grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader, playing golf with them and cheering for them at every sporting and school event she could attend. But most importantly, she faithfully prayed for them.

Sharon loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength. Everyone who knew her felt her love unconditionally. Sharon’s life was characterized by love.

A special thanks to Sharon’s caregivers Ms. Gloria Powell and Ms. Benita Jones and to Jennifer James, RN with ExpectCare Hospice. Their care for Sharon was exceptional, and we could not have made this journey without them.
