Sheryl DeCoudres Barkalow was born in Evanston, Illinois, on December 5, 1945, the third child of Katherine and Gordon DeCoudres. She moved with her family to Sylacauga, Alabama, in 1949 where she grew up.  After graduating from Sylacauga High School, she attended Huntington College where she received a degree in sociology. She worked for the State of Alabama for a number of years as a social worker before retiring. Sheryl was a member of Helena Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for a period of time.

Sheryl is survived by her son, Christopher, step-son Dave (Laura) Barkalow and grandchildren; Andy, Zadie, Rose, Michael, Xavier, and Saphira; her sister, Anne Eady and her brother, Don DeCoudres (Sue), as well as nephews; Shaun (Meg) DeCoudres, Hunter (Melanie) DeCoudres, Russell (Kerry) Black, Scott (Tara) Eady and niece Jennifer (Adam) Slovensky and many great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Helena Methodist Church on Saturday, June 20, 2024 at 1:00.
