How do you summarize a life that was filled with passion, creativity and kindness in a few words? He left me with 12 books that he wrote and edited, hundreds of poems and songs, including his own autobiography and a collection of books that he edited that cover poetry, arts, and music. He wanted to leave me and my son Adam a wealth of spiritual legacy - his wisdom and values that came from his life experiences, so that we could always have heart conversations long after he is gone. I'll share some of those on the Life page in the next few days.

Highlights of His Life: 生平简介
- Born in Shanghai, China in 1947: The year of my grandfather's career highlight - who managed all military supplies from the Allies to the Nationalist government at the end of WWII.
- 1965 - 1976 Cultural Revolution: Spent his youth and formative years in the virgin forests of Guangdong province, one of the rare national forests in China. This memorial page's theme - fall leaves - was his favorite. He said that he would never forget the brilliant fall leaves of these mountains. He was confined to solitary confinement for a year for dissent and being faithful to his own belief of what is true and right. He was admitted to Beijing University but was not allowed to go because of our family's connection to the Nationalist government. Yet he emerged from these years without bitterness, but a deeper faith in the kindness of people in the darkest time.
- 1976 - 1989: Married to my Mom, Chun Wang, and opened up a successful vocational school to teach Chinese typing and computer skills. He taught thousands of students and helped them find professional jobs as China opened up and modernized.
- 1989 - 2010: Immigrated to New York and opened a publishing company in Chinatown. Over the years, he published many community newspapers, magazines, and books for the overseas Chinese community. He gave many overseas Chinese artists a channel to share their stories.
- 2010 - 2020: In his retirement, he dedicated his life to serve the community and the elderly. He offered free classes to seniors and taught them how to use emails, smartphones, Photoshops, etc. so that they could connect with the younger generations. He was the president of two senior performance groups: The Chinese American Choir and The New York Culture Revolution Youths Performance Group. He was also a Senior Consultant to the Chinese Poetry, Calligraphy, and Arts Society, and the honorary chairman of the International Overseas Chinese Artists Alliance. His contribution to the community was recognized by the New York City Council and the New York State Assembly.

In the past month, the doctors and nurses at Weill Cornell New York Presbyterian Hospital took such good care of my father and became his family when we couldn't be there. Their compassion and competence were what gave us comfort during the challenging time. Every time they entered my dad's room, they were risking their own life. Yet, I know every nurse did the best they could to keep him more comfortable, more connected with the family, providing a human touch and emotional support that we couldn't. On the night when my dad passed, the PA and nurse cried with me and made sure that they were there to hold his hands. I am forever grateful to them.
