I am still in shock and deeply saddened by the news of Tony's passing.

Tony was a great ex-colleague and friend for the past 24 years. I was so lucky to have worked with Tony on Finance transformations and that quest for better information for better decisions. Tony took the business to a point 20 years ahead of it's time with Cost of Product and Customer Profitability within a business with over 17 million customers.

I will miss you Tones (the sign off on all communications with me) and will treasure our last walk in Lammas Park, Ealing during lockdown in March this year.

You are sorely missed. A true friend and one of the best ex-colleagues that I worked with.

I have put off doing this, partly because I thought I might write something more eloquent but mainly because doing this reminds me that Tony is dead, and it’s easier to pretend that isn’t the case. It’s been shocking and saddening for Tony’s colleagues, I can’t imagine how his family feel.  It’s two weeks and writing this has me in tears.

Tony made sure we did things properly. He paid attention to detail and gently, but determinedly, made sure we did too. If anyone else had been asking us to meet all the control requirements I think we would have got annoyed, but Tony was so kind that we all happily complied.

He would also spend entire meetings chatting, and I learnt so many interesting things. Like Tony, I’m half German, and his mother’s story was fascinating. He wrote me an email late one night recently to make sure I had tips for East Wittering in time for my holiday there this year.

Goodbye Tony, thanks for always being so calm, kind, funny and reasonable. To his wife and children, I hope your loss gets easier with time, and you’re able to find happiness in your memories of him.

It’s still difficult to come to terms with the fact that Tony is no longer with us and in all honesty I didn’t want to have to write this as I didn’t want to believe it. I knew Tony since joining Openreach (just over two years ago) but it will always feel much longer than that.

Tony always had a calm and composed nature about him but more importantly he would always make the time to the time to talk. He would always find ways to drop in some of his past work experience in conversations and on our regular team catch up calls during lockdown his building project would appear high on the agenda.

For the past year and a bit I had the pleasure of working closely with Tony (alongside Dee from Finance) on an project where we would always joke would last forever. What really got me through the last year was the fact that Tony always made the time to catch up on a personal level and I can truly say that this helped me get through some difficult times and I will forever be grateful for this.

Outside of the ‘day job’ Tony was always passionate about team engagement, Diversity & Inclusion and ultimately, making the workplace a better place for everyone and what really stood out to me was how easily Tony would always find common ground to connect with people.

To Tony’s family and friends I hope you find the strength to get through this difficult period and my thoughts are with you all.

Rest In Peace Tony

Sincerest condolences to Tony's family. I am still shocked by the news and i hope that in any way, knowing how much we all loved working with Tony will provide some comfort to this unimaginable loss. We will miss Tony massively. He was genuine, calming and just one of the good guys in life that you just want to be around every day. Thank you Tony for being you and the gent we will all miss.

My sincere condolences to Tony's family. Tony always inspired confidence and was someone whose word we could rely upon. He was one of the good guys around the office. While his untimely loss will leave a massive void for his family, I hope there is some comfort in knowing that he was someone who left such a positive impression on so many people.

I was saddened to her of Tony's sudden passing. I just felt for Tony's partner and children, as he was taken too soon.

He was such a gentleman, always willing to help or advise on suitable ways forward on financial issues with various passive products my team & I support for Openreach. He was always courteous and would always make time to say hello when we saw each other in Judd St.

May you rest in peace Tony.

When the news broke last Wednesday, I was lost for words. Even though I only met Tony once in person since I joined Openreach on the graduate scheme last September but his presence was strongly felt throughout the team. He had such a large footprint throughout the finance team (Unrelated to his job role) so he will be a greatly missed

I send all my condolences to Tony's family and hope they are staying strong and sticking together

I couldn't believe the news that Tony has left us. In truth I was in such shock that I didn't want to believe it. Tony was such a nice person to work with, humble. I still remember the day when I spoke to him before he went on leave .. :( May his soul rest in peace. My condolences to his family and may god give them strength to bear the loss.

It was such a shock and unbelievable news to hear of Tony's passing. He was such a lovely man, always positive, calm, articulate, willing to help. Tony understood regulation and the often conflicting demands of Finance and Regulation.
More recently we worked closely with the pricing team on the WFTMR compliance model and OCPPB continuous improvement. Tony was always positive, making suggestions and always, always willing to listen (private chats) and help (e.g. setting up calls to facilitate discussions with other teams for the benefit of all).
It still feels unreal that Tony is not longer joining calls of which he was a regular attendee and I cannot imagine what his family must be feeling at such a sudden and tragic loss.
My deepest condolences to his family, friends and close colleagues.

Tony was one of the good guys and a joy to know. A keen intellect and very genuine person, always personable and with a ready smile. He could make work fun even when stress levels were high.
My heartfelt sympathy to Tony’s family at this awful time. I will miss Tony greatly.

A gem of a person , Tony leaves mark in your life and in your thoughts before you even you realise. He was humble, light hearted, caring and empathetic. He will be in our prayers and may his soul rest in peace. My condolences to his family at this sad time. Miss you !

I'm incredibly sad to learn that Tony has passed away. We had met a few times in person and I will always refer back to his 'cappuccino' analogy, that he used to explain how to develop a business case! A very pragmatic and positive person who would, without doubt, provide the right guidance to make a business case fly. I'll miss his knowledge and input to our discussions. And I send my condolences and best wishes to his family x

I couldn't believe the news that Tony has left us. In truth I was in such shock that I didn't want to believe it. Tony had been such a wonderful colleague since our days at Competition Finance in BT. I only have fond memories of the guy, such a gentleman who was articulate, tact, intelligent and has a good sense of humour. He has a knack of connecting with others and I always felt that if I ever need anything he would be there to help to the best of his ability. I'd always felt like I would do anything for Tony.
My heartfelt condolences and thoughts are with Tony and his family as they go through this very difficult time.

Tony was an extremely caring and considerate person. No matter how busy he was he always had time to give me advice or help me out during my time in the team. I'll really miss his unique passion for the RFS, SOTAP and his many stories about his years at British Gas. I really can't believe he's gone and wish his family and other friends all the best during this difficult time. He truly was one of the good guys.

I am utterly lost for words and struggling to accept that Tony is no longer with us. Kind, considered, calm and so respected by everyone he worked with because of his wonderful approach and words of wisdom. Listening to Tony speak was like having someone put an arm around your shoulder - and boy could we all do with that now. Tony - you are so so missed

Tony was always very considered in any conversation you had with him and when he spoke his opinion carried weight because of it. He never took himself too seriously and we always had a laugh at one thing or another as we talked about misaligning numbers or unrealistic CP forecasted volumes.

He always took great joy in talking about his family, friends, and house! From the outpouring of thoughts it reaffirms that Tony really was one of the good guys, and I will certainly miss him.

Tony was a pleasure to know and to work with. When my son came into London for a work experience day Tony was one of the people I sought out to talk with him, which he gladly did without a second thought. Tony was pragmatic, inquisitive, had a great sense of humour and he’ll be sorely missed. My condolences to his family and friends at this sad time.

I was really shocked and saddened to hear of Tony’s sudden passing. He was a one of the real 'good guys'.
Working closely with him on the CCP PMO C2M process he was very easy to work with, a great listener, always positive and ready to impart words of wisdom and give constructive feedback. One of his greatest assets was to bring a sense of calm and a belief that big challenges can be overcome.
I and many others will miss him greatly. It was a privilege to have known him. My thoughts and condolences are with his family, close friends and immediate work team colleagues. He will leave a big hole in this world.

Tony was a great colleague to work with, he made finance fun with his dry sense of humour and will be massively missed. I was lucky enough to work with you on quite a few big programmes and our very own "Finance Tuesday" will never be the same.
We will miss you and I'm proud that we met in our careers

I was lucky enough to work with Tony over the last couple of years. He was always encouraging and helpful (and patient with me) at work - but it was the 'social' conversations that we had that will stay with me. He was always interested and interesting in conversation - but with a dry humour that always kept me guessing ! As a Chelsea fan he was always gracious in my ribbing of Arsenal and their results - but then we would discuss aspects of the game - from Board Room to Boot Room. I will miss these moments in my life - they were time well spent with a true gentleman.

I was lucky enough to have the privilege of working with Tony in my last two roles. Despite not being in finance I always felt like Tony was a close colleague, such was his warm and friendly nature. Whenever I visited Judd street I made sure to pop in and see Tony.

I loved hearing about his house renovations during COVID and as stressful as it sounded Tony always just took it in his stride and managed to find a humorous side.

I was so shocked to hear of Tony's passing and I'm absolutely gutted. Tony was a really lovely man and my thoughts are with all his family and friends at this sad time. He will be very much missed.

Tony was an absolutely lovely man. He was always friendly, calm, funny and very knowledgeable and he set an example to us all. Everyone I have spoken to has the same view of him, so that is the truth.

I will miss him for all of those reasons and for Tony’s family I hope that these and everyone’s words of support are of some comfort and I offer my deepest sympathy to you to you all.

I am sure that in living life the same way as Tony did you will honour him greatly.

Really sorry to hear the passing of Tony – my sympathy goes out to his family, friends and close colleagues.

Although I didn’t interact on a daily/ weekly basis whenever I dealt with Tony I knew I was in safe pair of hands – a good guy. He was thorough, polite and considered, always lovely to speak to and freely gave his opinion and advise when asked. A pleasure to work with.

I am shocked and dismayed by Tony's passing. A top colleague - intelligent, generous, helpful - he was a brilliant man. His loss has cut me deeply. It makes me cry when I remember he is gone.
To think that we will no longer enjoy the benefit of his calm professional presence; sage advice and coaching leaves a massive Tony shaped hole in our working lives. I offer my sincerest condolences to his family at this terrible time. Tony, godspeed in your next life.

Tony wasn't just a manager but was a dear friend and mentor. I continued to learn so much from him - from his keen and diligent approach and attitude to work, to his brilliant articulation in meetings. He would always ask questions or offer thoughts no one else would have addressed, and I often think 'what would Tony say/do in this situation'.

He was also as a great support to me over the last 5 years and I could always confide in him. An intellectual with real warmth and charm, and strong sense of humour.

My deepest condolences to the family. I will greatly miss you Tony and I will never forget you.

I am so very sad and so very sorry to hear about Tony, he will be so missed.

I echo what everyone has said, but Tony was just an all round nice guy. He always had time for everyone. He was the person you were happy to need to call for help because you know he'd definitely know the answer and you'd have a lovely catch up as well and come away smiling.

My heartfelt condolences to Tony's family for their unimaginable loss.

Tony was a lovely man and as a family you should be proud of him and the impression he left with all of us who met him. Although Tony and I mainly met by video and audio calls, his warmth, sense of humour and intelligence shone through. In our All-IP team in Openreach we trusted him and liked him. His calming tones were often needed and will be sorely missed. Please accept my condolences on your loss and may Tony rest in peace.

Tony, I still feel utterly stunned. From my first day in the team you were a wise and calming presence, making me feel so welcome. My utmost sympathy and condolences to your family, I cannot imagine their sadness at your loss.

Thoughtful, caring, calm, friendly, and considerate - that's how I know Tony. It's times like these that no-one knows what to say, but Tony would have been the one holding the ropes, giving advice, and offering a listening ear!

While there is a void left in the workplace, we can't imagine the loss felt by his family - praying much for them during this difficult time. Rest assured, you can be immensely proud of him and our memories of a true, honest, hardworking, gentleman.

My sincere condolences to Tony's family during this time of loss. I came to know Tony via his involvement with the Finance Inclusion Network and it was clear that Tony was a caring person from the discussion that we would have on the topic of diversity and inclusion. He would always listen carefully and take into consideration the thoughts of others and talk in a very considerate manner. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

Tony, we first met in 2016 and my first impression was that you were one of the nice guys, I was right. You had a wealth of regulatory knowledge that you were always happy to share with me and with others. We also shared a common interest in Arsenal football club and would often discuss the teams performance and the rivalry with our north London ‘friends’. You’ll be greatly missed.

September 17, 2021
I first met Tony on 16 May 2016. I am sure of the date because the previous day was the end of the football season and Arsenal (who won 4-0) pipped my team Spurs (who lost 5-1) to second place in the Premier League. The football banter started from day one as Tony was an ardent Arsenal fan and always had a good sense of humour often at the expense of my team. He was always willing to share his vast knowledge that was a great asset to his colleagues. He had a great ability pacify situations when we occasionally attended meetings that were a little bit hostile. He was well respected and while I worked for him he was pivotal in getting Openreach to agree to the Regulatory Accounts. Tony was always a conscientious worker but more than anything he was a really nice bloke and may he rest in peace.

Tony, it's at times like these we need you with us the most; for your compassion, your humour, your calming influence, and your kindness. We'll never replace your knowledge. We'll never replace your monologues. You had a true interest in what you did, in the roles we worked alongside one another and in your proud stories of workplaces gone by. The years (5? 6? you'd know) have been a pleasure

I really don't know where to start with this message, but i'm thinking of the times over the last few years since you joined our team. People keep saying you were one of the good guys, and that seems to hit the nail on the head for me. You were that. You always made time to help people, always time to listen, always time to coach. I'll miss our chats about our rival North London teams. I'll miss getting the latest updates on your building project.  I'll miss our 1:1s where we would "chew the cud", one of your favourite phrases. I can hear you saying that now.
