Words cannot express my appreciation of Dr. Vachon's demeanor and teaching style that affected and helped me as a young psychiatrist. In so doing, he taught me, even while explaining why things had not gone as I had expected. I found him to be tolerant, committed and creative in his approach to seemingly insolvable administrative issues. I feel privileged to have known him and to have worked on the Mass. Psychiatric Society Fellowship Committee with him. If he related to other young psychiatrists as he related to me, then he has left a rich legacy. May he rest in peace and may we think of him often.

Dr Louis Vachon: what a remarkable man! I knew Dr. Vachon through my work in the Mass Psychiatric Society, where he was a great help to me when we served on the Fellowship Committee. He provided non-judgmental guidance during a difficult time, using constructive suggestions. He was approachable and always willing to help with any issue brought to his attention. His gentle unassuming manner was disarming, because he saw and heard and understood everything. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing and will miss his quiet and reassuring presence a great deal. My condolences to his lovely wife and family.

Louis was a good friend of my father's, Dr. S. Joseph Nemetz, and I have fond childhood memories of him as a kind, friendly and humorous man. He came see my father in the hospital after he suffered what turned out to be a fatal cerebral hemorrhage in 1994 and I will always remember his affection, colored by deep sorrow, as he sat by Dad's bedside. In later years, my brother and I would occasionally run into Louis in Wellfleet and it was always a pleasure to see him. My deepest condolences on this sad loss.

We all mourn with you, some for the loss of a family member, some for the loss of a close friend. I mourn the passing of a fine uncle, someone I remember fondly from my youth. Louis leaves behind a wonderful legacy and a wonderful family. He will be missed. Our deepest sympathies for you and your family.

I am so very sorry for your loss.  I notified Diana Nugent, who was the Director of BPSI when your Dad was president and she said, “I shared a cup of Harrod’s tea with him ever Thursday during the two years he was president. He was a lovely man. My deepest sympathy to you and your family."
