Victor (Vic) Kyatt was born Fousy Al-Khyat on June 4, 1932, in Zahle, Beqaa Governorate, Lebanon, to Fousy Al-Khyat and Naziha Zammar Al-Khyat. Shortly after his birth, his father would pass away from illness. Naziha would get help raising young Fousy from various of the senior’s brothers and uncles, as well as the nuns in the local convent.

When Fousy was a teenager, Naziha met and married Mikhael Malouf. The couple shortly thereafter immigrated to Cleveland, OH. Fousy remained with his uncles in Zahle. The separation became too much for Naziha to bear. She sent for her then 16-year-old son, and Fousy was on his way to a new life in the United States.
When he came to the US, he spoke fluent Arabic and French, but little to no English. Fousy wanted to become a bona fide part of the fabric of his new country. He learned English quickly, largely by listening to the radio. Fousy (Arabic for “Victor”) changed his name to Victor, as well as “Americanized” the spelling of his surname. He joined the US Army when he was 18 and became a part of the 82nd Airborne. It was from his time in the service that he gained his US citizenship on November 24, 1953.  He was very proud of his service, as is everyone who has ever loved him. For decades, Vic would say his birthday was November 24, as that was the beginning of his new life.
Vic became an entrepreneur, husband, and very proud father. Vic raised his older two sons, Michael and Tony. After his divorce from their mother, he soon met the woman with whom he’d spend the rest of his life. Vic and Susan raised their three children and became grandparents. No man loved his kids more than Vic. He would tell anyone that his kids were his greatest accomplishment. He was the best golfing buddy to all his sons and his daughter’s favorite poker buddy. He came to Christ late in life, which is truly his greatest accomplishment snd legacy.
Victor Kyatt is preceded in death by his father Fousy Al-Khyat; Mother Naziha (Nancy) Zammar Al-Khyat Malouf; stepfather Mikhael (Michael) Malouf; and sons Michael and Anthony. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Susan; sons Victor III and David; daughter Kathryn; grandchildren Wes, Victor IV, and Taylor Grace; and great-granddaughter Grayson Faye.
Services will be held at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo on July 12 at 11 am. *
